Penalty decision set for October for Desjourdy's discreditable conduct

A disciplinary hearing set for October 21 will decide a punishment Ottawa Police Sgt. Steve Desjourdy..

He was found guilty in April of disorderly conduct under the police Professional Standards Act in connection with a September 2008 incident on the cell block at Elgin Street.

Desjourdy was acquitted in April of 2013 of all criminal charges after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman prisoner.

He had cut off her shirt and bra and left her topless in a cell for three hours.

Submissions were entered Thursday about what penalty the sergeant should face.

Prosecutors are seeking a six-month demotion to constable while his lawyers are pushing for a five-day forfeiture of pay and a reprimand.
