July STEP yields more than 500 charges

More than 500 charges were laid in the month of July for cycling and red light running in Ottawa and Gatineau as part of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.

A total of 66 charges were laid in Ottawa against cyclists who broke the rules and 51 similar charges were laid in Gatineau.

In Ottawa 187 charges were laid for red light running compared to 199 similar charges in Gatineau.

The STEP program works to make roads safer in the national capital region through a partnership between the Ottawa and Gatineau Police, RCMP, OPP, and military police.
