Man, 21, dead after stabbing outside Elgin Street bar

A 21-year-old man has died after a stabbing outside an Elgin Street bar in Ottawa's fourth homicide of 2014.

Multiple reports suggest a fight may have broken out inside Living Room, a bar on Elgin Street between Frank and Waverly, which lead to the victim and another man being kicked out of the bar.

Const. Marc Soucy with Ottawa Police told reporters in a press conference Saturday afternoon there are signs of an altercation before the stabbing.

"[WE're] trying to identify a connection with the stabbing," he said.

Police spent several hours at the scene, collecting evidence from sidewalks, behind the buildings near Living Room, and even from nearby dumpsters.

Emergency crews were called to Elgin Street at Frank Street just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning after reports of a stabbing.

The man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the upper body.

Paramedics say that the man lost vital signs on the way to the trauma centre and needed to be resuscitated. He was in surgery prior to his death.

Although police have not officially confirmed the man's identity, CTV Ottawa and other media sources report he was Jameir Jemmie, citing information received from relatives.
