NAC statue defaced overnight

Ottawa Police are investigating after the statue of Oscar Peterson near the National Arts Centre was defaced overnight.

Footage from video surveillance at the NAC shows two youth spray painting a couple of garage doors and the eyes of the statue.

NAC spokesperson Rosemary Thompson told CFRA the incident is unfortunate.

"Oscar Peterson is a beloved Canadian," said Thompson. "He was one of the world's greatest jazz pianists and people adore that statue. They sit with him, they hug him. They play the piano with him. It's very unfortunate, but we have given the footage to the police.

She said they hoped to have the statue cleaned up by Wednesday.
