The Major Crime Unit says it needs the public's help in order to crack the city's latest homicide.
Jabeir Jemmie, 21, was fatally stabbed in front of the Living Room Bar on Elgin Street early Saturday morning.
Despite the active night life in the area, Sgt. Rob Drummond with Major Crimes told CFRA their main challenge is getting witnesses to come forward.
"I think that there may be some people that may be reluctant for various reasons and I think that there may be some people who may not realize what they were seeing," he said. "It was an altercation out on Elgin Street and it may have happened very quickly."
Police have released the photos of three men investigators say are not suspects, but may have information important to the case.
"We want people to come forward and tell us what they know," Drummond said. "If they recognize any of the three gentlemen who are in that photo, we'd like to hear from you. If anyone has any personal video or photographs that they took that evening, we'd be interested."
"Not necessarily just of the incident itself," he added. "The time leading up to it or the time following it - we'd be interested in any of that information to assist us with our investigation."
He said while some witnesses have come forward and they have received some tips, they do believe there are more people out there who have not come forward.
"Everybody has a piece of the puzzle and we need all of the pieces to come to a complete, full picture about what happened there that night and it will help us solve this crime," said Drummond.
Ottawa Police would like to speak with anyone who was in the area of Elgin and Frank Streets between 2:15 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. Saturday August 23rd.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS), or toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
