Residents along Muskrat Lake in the Ottawa Valley are being warned against swimming or using the water for drinking after the Ministry of the Environment discovered blue-green algae on the lake.
The Renfrew Country Health Unit, along with the MOE, are advising anyone who uses Muskrat Lake for their drinking water to find an alternate source.
A warning that went out to residents in the area on Friday also advised against attempting to boil the water or using it in cooking as it could release more toxins in the boiling process.
The two organizations say they will be monitoring the lake for any changes.
