Gatineau girl tests negative for Ebola virus

There is no Ebola in Gatineau.

Officials with the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de l'Outaouais said in a statement test results have come back negative, in the case of a three-year-old Gatineau girl, who had recently returned from a trip with her mother to Sierra Leone.

The girl had come down with a fever - a symptom of Ebola - and was isolated as a precaution.

The health agency says she remains under observation, and is in stable condition.

The agency says the health care system in Quebec remains vigilant in the face of the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa, and protocols have been in place for several weeks to deal with any patients who may be at risk of infection.

The agency adds hospitals are prepared in the event of a confirmed case of Ebola. They remind, however, that the transmission risk of Ebola in Quebec is very low.
