Ottawa man arrested after reports of gun shots in Sandy Hill

Ottawa Police have made an arrest after reports of shots fired in a Sandy Hill neighbourhood on Sunday.

Police say they received multiple reports of gun shots being fired in the 500 block of Chapel Street near Templeton Street around 5:07 p.m. When police arrived they found a man they believed to be involved fleeing the scene.

After a foot chase, police arrested him, and recovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic Glock handgun.

Police say Phillip McGuffie, 22, of Ottawa, will be in court Monday. He's facing over a dozen charges, including several firearms-related charges, breach of probation, four counts of failing to comply with the conditions of a judicial release, and one charge of marijuana possession.

Police confirm to CFRA that McGuffie is known to them and that he is a convicted drug dealer that was arrested outside an Elgin Street bar in December 2011 in possession of a gun.

The Guns and Gangs unit is investigating this incident.

They say anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to call the Ottawa Police Service Guns and Gangs Section at 613-236-1222 Ext. 5050.
