Transformer struck by lightning downtown

A loud clap of thunder was followed by lightning striking a transformer on Elgin Street at Frank Street around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The lightning strike is being blamed for knocking out power to around 1300 homes and businesses in the Elgin, Somerset and Gladstone area.

Hydro Ottawa had the lights back on before 2 a.m.
