5. Do as I say, not as I do
Despite the high-profile public awareness campaign encouraging fans to take public transit or other transportation to the REDBLACKS game, a few city councillors drove their cars to TD Place. The Ottawa Sun reports that Cumberland councillor Stephen Blais and Rideau-Goulbourn councillor Scott Moffatt both drove to the game Friday night. Each councillor was apparently given free tickets and a parking pass to the game. Blais said, "The tickets came with the parking pass so I used it." Moffatt said he took his car because he was busy and running late when he attended the football game and Sunday's Fury soccer match.
4. Tunnel stunt
Carleton University has called in the police after a video was posted on YouTube showing a man riding a motorcycle through the pedestrian tunnels on campus. The video is about seven minutes long and it shows the motorcycle travelling at speeds of up to 80 kilometres an hour. The person behind the YouTube account where the video was posted was contacted by the Ottawa Citizen yesterday. He says he posted it for a friend.
3. Canada an adoption haven?
A growing number of mothers in Florida are sending their children to Canada for adoption and one of the reasons is that they want them to avoid racism. That's according to a report in the Ottawa Citizen this morning. Apparently international adoption is down in many countries but an increasing number of mothers putting their children up for adoption in Florida are choosing Canada.
2. Duffy documents revealed
Police documents allege that Mike Duffy charged taxpayers for travel to funerals and disbursed money to three individuals for illegitimate expenses. Those three people include a makeup artist and someone who may have previously been Duffy's personal trainer. The latest allegations appear in court documents that were revealed yesterday. Duffy is facing 31 criminal charges. None of the allegations against him have been proven in court and he says he has done nothing wrong.
1. Black boxes released
Ukrainian rebels have released the black boxes from the downed Malaysian Airlines flight and have also turned over a train carrying the remains of many of the victims. The train travelled from the rebel-controlled territory in eastern Ukraine into a government-controlled city and were taken to a military area. The bodies will be put in coffins and will eventually be taken to the Netherlands, where most of the passengers were from.
