5. Habs take Game One

P.K. Subban scored two goals in Montreal's double overtime Game One win in Boston last night, including the game-winner. Game Two is tomorrow at 12:30. Game One in the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers series gets underway tonight in Pittsburgh at 7pm. Also tonight, the Blackhawks host the Minnesota Wild in Chicago at 9:30pm. The Toronto Raptors could move on to the Eastern Conference semifinals for only the second time in franchise history with a win in Brooklyn tonight.

4. Ford enters rehab

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has escaped the media circus and entered a rehab facility somewhere in the United States. Ford said nothing to the media throng outside his Etobicoke home as his nephew, Michael Ford, carried a suitcase. His brother and campaign manager, councillor Doug Ford, said "as an older brother, I'm relieved that Rob has faced his problems and decided to seek professional help". A growing chorus of political rivals are demanding Rob Ford resign and drop out of the race.

3. Tensions rise in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin ratchets up the tensions in central Europe even higher with a warning that the Ukraine government must remove its military from the Southeast region of its own country. Ukraine has reinstated military conscription, saying men 18 and over now will be drafted into the defense forces. It's becoming increasingly dangerous for the international observer team, which Canada now heads.

2. VIA/Ottawa fight continues

OC Transpo general manager John Manconi is responding to a private citizen's video that purports to show 22 OC Transpo buses running red lights on various days at a busy downtown intersection. The video is posted on YouTube by an anonymous poster. Manconi sent an email to the poster asking for a meeting to get more details on when the video was taken. He is rejecting the video's characterization of OC Transpo which labels the drivers as unfit, along with the Transit Commission.

1. It's up to Horwath

NDP leader Andrea Horwath cancelled all media appearances, including on this radio program, and has scheduled a 10am news conference today to give her response to the Wynne government budget, and perhaps even indicate whether the NDP will vote for it. Premier Kathleen Wynne is telling Horvath she has one week to announce whether she will support the government, or let it fall and cause an election. Incredibly, the Liberals plan to pile on even more debt. The government will spend $12.5 billion more than it takes in next year. That's $2 billion more borrowing than they had originally projected. They still claim they will balance the budget by 2017-18.
