What you Need to Know in Ottawa Today


  • Apple acknowledged that their iCloud was subjected to individual attacks on several celebrities. They are advising that all people who use any type of 'cloud' to use the two-step authentication feature offered by major tech companies. It requires users to enter a special code that would be emailed to them if an attempt is made to access their account from a device not previously used.


  • Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau is denying that Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby was arrested in Ottawa last night. Sun Media's QMI news agency reported overnight online that the hockey star was taken to police headquarters on Elgin Street and a mug shot and fingerprints were taken. Bordeleau told CFRA, "We have had no dealings with Mr. Crosby." The Sun has since pulled the story from their website.


  • OPP in Stratford, Ontario confirm that Justin Bieber was charged with dangerous driving and assault after a collision between a minivan and an ATV that Bieber was driving lead to an altercation.


  • The Ukrainian military has been routed by Russian-supported rebels who claim they are on the verge of capturing the strategic Donetsk airport. The Ukrainian president claims he and Russian president Vladimir Putin have agreed on a cease-fire, but Putin's office has denied that.


  • Another brutal beheading on an ISIS videotape, this time of U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff. US officials have confirmed the video is authentic. U.S. President Barack Obama said this morning, "Whatever these murderers think they will achieve by murdering innocents like Steven, they have already failed. We will not be intimidated. Their horrific acts only unite us."


  • In business: We'll get the interest rate reading from the Bank of Canada today, and General Motors is apparently developing a car that will be watching you!


  • In sports: Bobby Ryan is back in town, meaning contract negotitions should heat up. He will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
