Another arrest has been made after an inmate was killed at the Niagara Detention Centre.
A 52-year-old man was found without vital signs on the morning of Saturday June 10th, 2023, at the jail on Highway 58 in Thorold.
The man was later pronounced dead and the NRP's Homicide Unit took over the investigation.
Homicide investigators arrested an 8th suspect today.
44-year-old Julio Zari-Torres of Pelham is charged with second degree murder.
He will appear for a bail hearing tomorrow.
Niagara Police arrested five men in connection with the death last week including; 29-year-old Joshua LeBlanc of Welland, 23-year-old Tyler Pelikan of Welland, 44-year-old Shaun St Denis of Welland, 23-year-old Ju-Ron Fertilien of St. Catharines, and 28-year-old Zachary Durant of Niagara Falls.
The week prior, police charged 19-year-old Jeremy Lowes-Kennedy of Welland, and 39-year-old Kelvin Justin Bascus of St. Catharines with second degree murder as well.
All men were in custody at the jail at the time.
