The head of the Greater Ottawa Truckers Association is expressing outrage over Mayor Jim Watson retweeting a screengrab of a Facebook post discussing his political views.
In a Facebook post from April 26th - the day Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump swept Super Tuesday - Barr wrote that he was "dancing in the street" over Trump's victory.
A Twitter user shared that post with the caption "Get to know Ron Barr, president of the Greater Ottawa Truckers Association," which Mayor Jim Watson retweeted without comment.
Barr was fuming when he appeared on CFRA's Ottawa Now with Evan Solomon on Tuesday afternoon, calling it a cheap shot.
Last week Barr said he would have liked truckers to play a role in meetings discussing cycling safety following the collision September 1st at Laurier and Lyon in which a 23-year-old woman was killed.
Mayor Watson responded on CFRA's Newsfeed with Kristy Cameron, saying it was a cycling working group, not a trucker working group.
The meeting had been planned prior to the tragedy.
Watson did note that if Barr wants to offer increased education to truck drivers - which Barr suggested himself - he would be all in favour.
