Rideau-Vanier Councillor Mathieu Fleury says he no longer believes one of Ottawa's homeless shelters can operate safely on a day-to-day basis.
Fleury's comments come following the stabbing death of a 30-year-old woman near the shelter on George Street last Friday.
The councillor said he's met with staff at the Salvation Army Booth Centre six times in the past three months, and yet there are still concerns about drug use in front of the building.
"What we're seeing is.....continued drug use, drug activity, drug exchanges, " Fleury said.
"Although the team at Salvation Army has done the quick things.....we're asking for more."
Fleury says the Toronto head office of Salvation Army always send them back to the Ottawa office.
But he adds he's not confident the Ottawa management at the Booth Centre can operate safely on a day-to-day basis.
