"Mix of sun and cloud with a chance of showers."
It's a forecast we have heard over and over and over again so far this summer.
The question is "why?"
Environment Canada senior climatolagist David Phillips is trying to shed some light on what's been happening.
He told CTV Morning Live this is being caused by the weather-delivering jet stream sitting on top of us, instead of where it normally should be.
"Typically in Canada in the summertime, (the jet stream) is well to the north," said Phillips. "(Normally,) Eastern Canada gets a few stormy days, but mostly dry days; sunny days; hot days like we had last year."
Since June 21, there have been 17 days where Ottawa has been hit by rain.
Phillips says we can expect warmer temperatures through August, but Environment Canada doesn't expect the weather to make up for the early summer.
"My sense is nature is not going to make up for what has been, rather than a hummer of a summer, a bummer of a summer."
Some dry days are expected through this weekend.
