After indicating otherwise weeks ago, it now looks like Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau will honour a request not to march in uniform during this year's Capital Pride parade.
In a statement, Bordeleau says after speaking with LGBTQ2 police officers, community partners and Liaison Committee members, he has changed his mind.
Instead of donning his uniform, Bordeleau will join officers and civilian staff in wearing Ottawa Police-branded clothing.
In his case, a golf shirt.
Bordeleau says while officers he met with expressed hurt and frustration about Capital Pride's request to exclude uniforms, the majority also felt defying it would not help build trust.
The parade will take place August 27.
I'd like to thank @ChiefBordeleau for working towards this solution with the community. Glad that officers can proudly march in OPS clothing https://t.co/qDyuZs2ASU
