A do not drink advisory is affecting a small number of businesses in the Rideau Centre.
Ottawa Public Health issued the advisory at 1:45 p.m. Monday for the Tim Hortons, Shoppers Drug Mart, and Forever 21 stores, as well as office washrooms and taps. OPH says the advisory will remain in effect until they can confirm the tap water is safe to drink.
In a statement, the City of Ottawa said workers on the Confederation Line light rail construction project outside the Rideau Centre connected to a water source within the mall that backflowed into the City’s watermain, affecting water services in one area of the Rideau Centre. Some tenants experienced murky water issues, the statement said.
The City's water services department is working with the Rideau Centre to flush the plumbing system.
The Tim Hortons was briefly closed, but was able to reopen Monday afternoon, serving a limited menu.
