The City of Ottawa is predicting a budget surplus of $6.6 million dollars by the end of the year, in tax and rate-supported areas.
Kanata South Councillor Allan Hubley says that doesn't mean the city should rush to spend the money. Not all City departments are in the black, either. Public Works is looking at a deficit of $10.6 million.
Hubley says he would put the surplus money into reserves because good fiscal management is what got them out of the red and into the black in the first place.
Last year, the city ended up $41.8 million dollars in the red in tax and rate supported areas.
