A new agreement between the City and the union that represents roughly 6300 employees has been ratified.
City Council has approved the collective agreement with Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 503. The agreement sees the employees get raises every year for four years.
This year and next year, pay rates go up 1.92 per cent, followed by a 1.95 per cent raise in 2018 and a 2 per cent raise in 2019.
Registered Nurses and personal support workers in long-term care homes now get a small clothing and footwear allowance.
And employees will be eligible for four weeks of vacation after five years of service, instead of six.
The workers had been without a contract since December, 2015.
