The City's planning committee is expected to reject a plan to build a Salvation Army church and community centre in northern Barrhaven.
The site in question, at 102 Bill Leathem Drive, falls within an exclusionary zone that restricts development due to noise from the airport, called the Airport Operating Influence Zone (AOIZ). It bans construction of “sensitive” development, such as schools, retirement residences, and places of worship.
City staff are recommending the Salvation Army's plan be rejected when it comes before the planning committee on March 28.
The Ottawa Airport Authority had raised concerns that congregants would complain about noise if a church was built.
Speaking on CFRA in November 2016, Salvation Army Captain Jim Mercer suggested this case may end up before the Ontario Municipal Board.
