Collision investigation leads to gun and drugs being seized

Ottawa Police say they seized a gun and drugs during an investigation into a collision at the intersection of Catherine and Metcalfe streets. 

Ottawa Police say they seized a gun and drugs during an investigation into a collision at the intersection of Catherine and Metcalfe streets. 

Police say the collision occured on January 19th at around 9:30 and was witnessed by an off-duty officer. 

The officer went to the scene of the collison and called 9-1-1 in relation to minor injuries. 

When frontline officers arrived, Police say they questioned the drivers in the collision and one became non cooperative and refused to identify himself. 

Officers arrested the non cooperative driver. During the arrest, police found a loaded .22 caliber handgun on the driver as well as cocaine and $1000 in Canadian currency. 

The passenger was also arrested.

Police have charged the driver, 26 year old Daniel Ofori of Brantford Ontario, with the following:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Carry firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, etc...
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Fail to comply with a recognizance  x2
  • Fail to comply with a probation order  x2

Police have also charged the passenger, 20 year old Joshua William Black of Ottawa, with the following:

  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

Both men appeared in show cause court on Sunday.
