Should Ottawa become a sanctuary city?
This is the question that will be asked at a community meeting on Thursday evening.
The meeting is being hosted by the Ottawa Sanctuary City Network at the Knox Presbyterian Church on Lisgar Street.
The group is a coalition of social service providers, lawyers, advocates, migrants, researchers and activists according to their website.
Somerset ward councillor Catherine McKenney proposed the idea of making Ottawa a sanctuary city but wanted to gather feedback from the community first.
Her motion is expected to be debated at the Community and Protective Services Committee on March 30th.
The designation would mean that undocumented immigrants would have access to municipal services without fear of repercussions.
Thursday's meeting starts at 6 p.m.
