The 21-year-old found guilty of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 18-year-old Brandon Volpi was formally sentenced today.
Volpi was killed outside Les Suites Hotel on prom night in June of 2014.
Hackett's conviction carried a mandatory life sentence. His parole eligibility timeline remained in question before this morning.
The Crown had called for 12 to 13 years before he could apply for release.
