City Councillor Diane Deans is calling out the city on its response to a report that suggested they are skimping on their budget in social services.
The report was issued by Carleton University researchers, showing that the city is allocating more of its dollars into other departments.
On The Newsfeed with Kristy Cameron, Deans says the way the city tried to straighten out the facts was a poor was of handling the situation.
"I don't think that's a constructive approach. I'd like to focus my energy on understanding how we as a city can support the partners and to that end, to engage them in meaningful discussions. And so, I suggested to the city manager that a better approach would be bringing in the representatives of the agencies, bring in the researchers, bring in the mayor ... city staff, bring in myself. Let’s all sit at a table and have a meaningful conversation about what's happening out there and what the city can do to help."
Deans says she hopes representatives of the different agencies can join in these meetings in the run-up to the 2017 budget.
