Crown prosecutors have demanded consecutive sentences totalling 23 years for a former Mountie convicted of holding captive his young son in their Kanata home, then torturing and sexually assaulting him.
The boy was near death when he escaped in February of 2013 at the age of 11.
The former counter-terrorism officer, who can't be named, was convicted last month of forcible confinement, aggravated assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
Defence attorneys are arguing for a sentence of between five and seven years, arguing the man suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.
The boy's adoptive mother was found guilty of assault with a weapon and failing to provide the necessaries of life, and was sentenced to three years behind bars.
