A Cumberland woman is throwing a fundraiser for the residents of the east-Ottawa community affected by May's devastating flooding.
A community barbecue is taking place Sunday at the R.J. Kennedy arena from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Christina Hajjar tells CFRA's The Newsfeed she was inspired by what other flood-stricken communities had done to support their residents,
"If you look toward Rockland, they raised $50,000 for their flood victims," she told CFRA's The Newsfeed. "The Constance Bay area had such a big community affected that they have a relief organization that was created by these residents that were affected. Here in Cumberland, no one really had the chance to band together that way."
Hajjar had to leave her home in Cumberland after it was completely flooded in May. She says the home is now a write-off and will have to be demolished.
Sunday’s event will feature a barbecue and activities for children.
