In Ottawa, he's been called "Captain," "Legend" and even "God."

The longtime Ottawa Senators captain and all-time leading team scorer received Canadian citizenship alongside his wife Bibi today at a ceremony in Toronto, the location of the World Cup of Hockey.

The Canadian-born Alfredsson children hold dual citizenship.
Alfie donned a Team Canada jersey for a photo opportunity. Alfredsson has enjoyed on-ice success as a member of Team Sweden, including an Olympic gold medal win in 2006.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent out a tweet acknowledging the citizenship ceremony, without mentioning the name of the new Canadian who was front and centre.

However, former Leaf Darcy Tucker - who shared an infamous on-ice moment with Alfredsson resulting in Tucker being sent into the boards and the Sens captain scoring a game-winning playoff goal - was among the first to offer congratulations.
Congrats on becoming a Canadian citizen Alfie, from your old friend Tucks
