As the anticipation builds for Canada Day and Ottawa 2017, the city is looking at different options to accommodate more people for the celebrations.
Executive Director of the Ottawa 2017 Bureau Guy Laflamme says hotels are going fast for the month of July.
"Based on the numbers that I have received, we are pretty close to a full, full sellout. We wanted to take all possible measures to facilitate access to the city"
The city has introduced the concept of Urban Camping - where people will be able to camp on the grounds of community centres all across the city.
The idea will go before council in November to discuss issues of safety, security, and alcohol regulations for these special camp grounds.
President of the Hintonburg Community Association James Valcke says using the Tom Brown Arena in the area has been met with mixed reviews.
"I would say that generally, there's been some hesitated excitement about it. It is a novel idea. It is a space that is there and unused. Obviously there are a lot of outstanding questions and we do have some concerns. But, overall, I'd say the community association has been quite positive about this step."
Valcke adds he doesn't want permanent residents in the area to be negatively affected by it.
"One of the serious concerns is safety and noise. Those are two of the important things that we'll be looking towards. We want to make sure that the residents who do live here permanently are accommodated as well."
Vackle says he also wants to be assured that any damages that may occur during that time will be fixed immediately.
