At an event in Orléans, Monday, Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford said, if elected premier, he’d cut taxes for the lowest-paid people in the province.
“Under the PC government, if you’re making minimum wage, you will pay zero per cent tax,” Ford said. “We will introduce a minimum wage tax credit so those struggling just to get ahead will pay no taxes whatsoever.”
The Progressive Conservative Party says the pledge will cost the government roughly $500 million per year and would be fully implemented by January 1, 2019. The tax credit would apply to full- and part-time workers as well as students making minimum wage.
Speaking on Newstalk 580 CFRA’s News and Views with Rob Snow Ford also said he would be committed to ensuring provincial funding remains for two major projects in Ottawa.
Ford says he is 100% committed to keeping $1 billion in funding in place for Phase 2 of LRT in Ottawa. He also says he will keep funding in place for the new Civic hospital.
“Health care is number one,” Ford said. “We can talk about tax, we can talk about anything, but nothing is more important than your health. Without your health, you’re done. We’re going to make that a priority.”
