A city memo says Emergency and Protective Services is going to take a look at having Ottawa Police and firefighters carry the anti-overdose drug Naloxone.
The memo from the desk of EPS general manager Anthony Di Monte says it's a process that will require significant evaluation and planning.
Right now only paramedics carry the kits.
Last week the president of the Ottawa Professional Firefighters Association said its members wanted to have access to Naloxone.
In some cases, they've picked them up from pharmacies themselves.
There are instances where firefighters arrive to medical 9-1-1 calls before paramedics reach the scene.
