Former Ottawa-Vanier MPP Madeleine Meilleur has been selected for a federal appointment.
The Prime Minister's Office announced today she's been nominated as the new Commissioner of Official Languages.
Meilleur's name surfaced as the likely candidate last week, which drew criticism from the NDP.
It will be her job to ensure the full recognition and widespread use of English and French in Canadian Society.
The appointment has to be approved by parliament before it becomes official.
