There was a bit of a strange sight above Ottawa yesterday in the form of a small, orange streak.
It was in the western part of the sky near where the moon was rising early in the evening, displaying characteristics similar to a meteor.
The object was not moving through the sky very quickly.
A bright fireball that soared through the skies over Britain Monday night was also thought to be a meteor, but a U.K. meteor network said that it was moving too slowly, indicating it was debris.
However, it was likely something else entirely: a short contrail from a passing plane.
Tiny clouds generated by a plane are known to develop an orange tint because of light being emitted by the sun as it sets.
Additionally, a plane flying across the sky can create the illusion of something falling.
