About 250 firefighters and police officers took part in the 22 push-up challenge in Kanata on Thursday, to raise money for Wounded Warriors Canada.
The first-responders took part in the friendly competition to raise money for Canada’s ill and injured soldiers and veterans, just ahead of Remembrance Day.
"Everyone always jokes about the relationship between cops and firefighters and everything and what this really highlighted is that we're all behind the same cause," says Scott Maxwell, the executive director of Wounded Warriors Canada.
Maxwell says it was incredible to watch the competition unfold.
Rows of OPP and Ottawa Police officers, firefighters and OC Transpo special constables grunted in unison, as they did push-ups underneath a large Canadian flag, hanging from the ladder of a firetruck.
"Remembrance Day is not just about honouring the fallen ... it's also about remembering the service and sacrifice of those living," says Maxwell. "Today across the country thousands of veterans and first responders are living with operational injuries like PTSD."
Maxwell says to date the 22 push-up challenge has raised close to $100,000.
