The City of Ottawa says curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection has been cancelled for Wednesday, February 13.
The Wednesday pick-up will take place on Thursday, February 14. In addition, the collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Multi-residential garbage, recycling and green bin collection is also delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Marilyn Journeaux, the director of solid waste service at the City of Ottawa says, once curbside pickup resumes, residents are encouraged to support snow-clearing efforts by placing garbage bags and bins in the driveway, and not on a sidewalk or on top of a snowbank.
The City of Gatineau has also postponed curbside pickup Wednesday, and will resume collection Thursday.
In a statement to CFRA Wednesday afternoon, Journeaux said the decision to cancel curbside pickup was made as a result of the impact of the storm.
"We appreciate the difficulties faced by residents during the winter season," Journeaux wrote. "The City strives to provide service to residents under all weather conditions. Due to the severity of the storm and the impact on internal resources and external contractors, the decision was made early this morning to cancel waste collection. The City thanks residents for their understanding. Further updates will continue to be communicated to residents on Ottawa.ca and on social media."
