If you’re downtown this weekend you may hear gunshots or people panicking. Do not be alarmed. The federal government says they are filming a training video that covers active shooter and lockdown scenarios.
Global Affairs Canada is making the video to replace the one from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that is currently being used to train government employees.
Filming will take place Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., inside and at the front and rear entrances to the Global Affairs facility at 125 Sussex Drive, and Sunday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., inside the Global Affairs office at 234 Laurier Avenue West. RCMP officers and vehicles will be involved in the flming at Sussex Drive on Saturday. There are no plans to close roads to traffic or redirect pedestrians to allow for the filming.
Global Affairs says a plain-clothed RCMP officer will be acting as the intruder. Other actors will portray building employees. Some takes will include yelling and screaming. Some takes will include the RCMP officer firing blank rounds.
Global Affairs says any action shots involving guns will take place within the facility.
