The Alliance to End Homelessness says there's been some progress in the capital, but the number of people using sheltes continues to rise.
The organization's annual report praises the 320 affordable housing units created last year.
But it also notes 7,170 people had to use shelters in our city last year, a five per cent increase over 2015.
There were some surprises - a 20% increase in the number of women over 50 using shelters, and a 12.5% hike in the number of families.
Among single men, the average of length of stay declined for the second consecutive year, reflecting some success in finding housing solutions for some of the shelters' longest-term residents.
