One resident of the Vanier neighbourhood who witnessed the city's 54th shooting Sunday night says she has plans to leave the area in weeks.
Police say a man brought himself to the nearby Montfort Hospital around 10 p.m. Monday with non-life threatening injuries to his leg.
Tammy Srigley says she, her daughter, and their dog were out for a walk when the incident happened...
"You could hear people pounding on somebody and they screamed 'help'," she says. "We didn't see it. We heard it. There was a gunshot. We looked back and everybody was gone."
Srigley says the increasing gang violence in the capital has her nervous and makes her want to leave the city.
"I'm out of here within like the next month," she said. "I'm honestly scared for my life. I've never wanted to just curl up and cry somewhere like I did [that] night. I was really scared."
Police have not confirmed this shooting was gang related but say the victim is not co-operating.
This year has been a record-breaking one for gun violence in the Capital, surpassing the previous high of 49 shootings in a single year.
