Aboriginal protesters say the RCMP have given them permission to move their tipi next to the Canada 150 stage for Saturday's big event.
Nine people were briefly detained by police when they attempted to set up the tipi early Thursday morning.
All have been released, but have been banned from Parliament Hill for six months.
Protester Brendon Nahwegezhic says it's an important symbol to show Canadians that Canada Day isn't just about celebration.
"We're here to let people know about the genocide that went on, of the assimilations that went on" Nahwegezhic told reporters.
"That is a part of the history, and that is the truth of Canada."
Nahwegezhic says Canada's history has a dark past, and that has to be made known before any reconcilcation can happen..
