Inmates at the Quinte Detention Centre say there have been multiple fentanyl-related overdoses in the last week.
Two inmates tell CTV that there were 10 overdoses on Sunday and Monday of last week, describing chaos in the building. A spokesperson confirms there've been several lockdowns as officers have refused to work citing health and safety concerns.
"They're yelling and fighting with one another," one inmate says. "Some people are saying we're on lockdown. Other people are saying we're off lockdown. Nobody knows what's going on."
The spokesperson for the detention centre confirms three people were taken to hospital last Sunday, but couldn't say why because of privacy concerns. They tell CTV News they're not aware of any drugs in the jail at this time.
