The Butterfly Child is turning a small donation into something special for kids at CHEO.
Jonathan Pitre - who remains in Minnesota for medical care for his blistering skin disease - was recently given a $150 Community Youth Leader grant by RBC.
What he's decided to do is double the amount using his personal funds to throw a World Junior Hockey Tournament party for sick kids in Ottawa.
"Jonathan explained to me that a tradition for he and his family is to get together and watch the World Junior Championship over the holidays," CHEO Foundation COO Kevin Keohane told CFRA's Ottawa Now. "Particularly the Canada-US game."
"We realized the Canada-US game is being shown in the afternoon. It's a game he can stay up for and a game kids in the hospital can stay up for."
The money will pay for pizza, snacks and drinks.
The CHEO Foundation offered to pay the extra $150, but Pitre insisted.
"He does not want to be deprived of the opportunity of the feeling he has when giving to others," said Keohane. "It's absolutely inspiring to speak with him, and this is what he's going to do."
The plan is to Skype Jonathan in from Minnesota to speak with the other kids.
