Kitchissippi ward councillor Jeff Leiper says he is in hospital after suffering a heart attack while shoveling snow.
The news was shared through a statement from Leiper on Somerset ward councillor Catherine McKenney's Twitter.
In it, Leiper says he is at the Ottawa Heart Institute after undergoing an angioplasty. He says he is recovering and feeling great.
But Leiper says he does plan to take a couple of weeks off from his duties to rest. Leiper goes on to say he is a 48 year-old that has been smoking since he was 18, and the first step in his recovering is to quit smoking.
Leiper says his office staff will be assisting in day-to-day issues.
Leiper signs off by warning residents to take care while shoveling, and to not over-exert.
