If you scan your own groceries at Loblaws stores, make sure to have a debit or credit card handy.
Loblaw says it has dropped cash as a form of payment at its self-serve checkouts in Ottawa.
VP of Corporate Affairs and Communication Kevin Groh says in a statement the change comes as more customers are choosing plastic to pay for their groceries.
“As we continue to see a rise in debit and credit payments for groceries, we decided to no longer offer a cash payment option on our self-serve checkout machines,” the statement says. “For those interested in paying by cash or receiving cashback our cashiers are happy to help them.”
Groh says it is Loblaw’s hope the change will speed up transactions at the self-serve checkouts.
The change affects Loblaws and Real Canadian Superstores in Ottawa.
