The city will have a lower-cost transit pass for low income earners next year, but how much lower is not yet known.
Mayor Jim Watson says it will be a 'significant discount' off the pass of a monthly adult general pass, which now costs $105.75.
The final cost will be determined in the coming budget deliberations.
It will apply to individuals with an income of about 20-thousand dollars or less, and to families of four where the income is about 38-thousand dollars annually, or below.
Watson says, by offering a low income transit pass, the City is helping those who would otherwise not be able to afford to get around to work or access health care.
The new pass will not be subsidized by increasing the cost of other passes.
Officials estimate almost 9,000 people will benefit from the pass.
