Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is headed to Washington, D.C. this week to participate in a number of events, including the Strong Cities Workshop.
It's the first time an Ottawa mayor has been invited to the event.
The workshop is a chance for municipal leaders to learn about and protect against hate and terrorism.
Ottawa's Mayor will also be participating in the launch of the Public-Private Partnership Task Force Against Hate, which includes an international delegation of experts and Mayors from across the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Germany.
Watson will be speaking at the workshop about Ottawa's emergency response to the Parliament Hill shooting that killed Corporal Nathan Cirillo back on October 22, 2014.
During the week, Watson will also be attending the United States Conference of Mayors.
Finally, Watson will meet with His Excellency David MacNaughton, Ambassador of Canada to the United States and Monique Smith, Ontario’s Representative at the Canadian Embassy in the United States to discuss stronger economic ties between Ottawa and Washington.
