There is unrest in the military community, after Veteran Affairs Canada's decision to pay for treatment for a convicted cop killer who never served.
Christopher Garnier was given a life sentence for second-degree murder after the strangling of off-duty officer Catherine Campbell in Halifax.
Garnier claims he now suffers from PTSD and because his father was in the armed forces, his treatment is covered.
Joining CFRA's Beyond the News with Brian Lilley, retired sergeant Colin Saunders says his fellow veterans aren't getting the help that Garnier has been given.
"Every day I'm seeing veterans come in and they've been roadblocked through the bureaucracy of Veteran Affairs," Saunders said. "It's simply an outrage and it's sad that it has to get to the point where we need to shame people and hold them to account for them to do the right thing."
Earlier this month, a judge ordered Garnier to serve at least 13.5 years before he can apply for parole.
