The ongoing construction project on Elgin St. is going to make getting around a bit harder starting this week.
On Monday, Elgin will be reduced to one lane in each direction between MacLeod and Isabella and parking in that area will be prohibited.
Business owners along Elgin have complained that the contruction and lack of parking will chase customers away.
City Council approved a plan Wednesday to try and alleviate some of that stress by allowing free parking at City Hall.
Starting today, you'll be able to park for free at City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue, just off of Elgin, after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
The free parking at City Hall is expected to remain available through 2019, when the road closes to traffic entirely.
The plan for Elgin includes reconstruction of the underground linear system, widening sidewalks, work to watermains and sewers, utility reconstruction, road structure and pavement. There will also be landscaping done.
