Ottawa Fire says a severed gas line in Vanier has been safely clamped, after the 1" line was severed late Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called by Enbridge, just after 5:00 p.m., reporting the line, at the corner of Lavergne Street and Ste. Monique Street, had been breached.
It lies at the bottom of a pit. Rope and trench teams had to be called in to help Enbridge, as they worked to find the best way to shut off the gas.
Ottawa Police and Paramedics were called as a precaution, and OC Transpo was called to the scene to accomodate evacuated residents.
A 60-metre security perimeter had to be set up to allow crews to deal with the leak safely. It has since been removed and people have been allowed to return home.
No one was reported hurt.
