Ottawa's transit commission has approved a budget to cover any losses during the six-month delay of the new LRT project.
The LRT is expected to start running in November and that means OC Transpo will continue to run buses in the downtown core with detours.
The costs of bus drivers must be also absorbed.
OC Transpo says it's working with the union to reduce the number of lay-offs that's now pegged at 600.
The LRT delay will mean an extra $14M added to the OC Transpo budget, $10.8M of which will be paid by the Rideau Transit Group, the builders of the LRT.
