The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has approved the closure of six local schools.
Five of them will close this fall, the sixth at a later date.
On Wednesday night, trustees approved the closure of D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate, Greenbank Middle School, Grant Alternative, and Leslie Park and Century Public Schools Wednesday night. Those schools will close in September.
J.H. Putman Public School will remain open until a planned addition to Agincourt Road Public School is opened.
Regina Street Public School, which trustees earlier agreed would not be closed, will become an Alternative School.
D. Aubrey Moodie students will attend Bell High School, which will become a Grade 7 – 12 school.
Greenbank Middle School students will be directed to Sir Robert Borden High School, which will also become a 7-12 school. Middle French Immersion students in grades 7 and 8— who live in an area bounded by Baseline Road, Woodroffee Avenue, Highway 417, and both sides of Morrison Drive— will be attending D. Roy Kennedy Public School. Gifted Early French Immersion students will be sent to Bell High School.
Grant Alternative students will attend the new Regina Street Alternative School, serving JK to Grade 6.
Leslie Park Public School students will be redirected to Briargreen Public School, but the two Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialized Program classes will be redirected to Woodroffe Avenue Public School.
Students at Century Public School will be sent to Carleton Heights Public School.
This all comes following months of study and debate over the future of several OCDSB schools.
Next week, trustees will make a final vote on the future of Rideau High School, which is also facing closure.
